You can attach various equipment outside the backpack, such as skis or a snowboard, snowshoes, ice ace, etc. Inside, you can carry your safety gear, water bladder, valuables and any additional equipment you need for your outing.  The main compartment can be opened from the back to access easily your gear and keep the back panel dry by laying the pack on the other side.
